It is the result of anti-democratic legislation passed by Labor and the Coalition requiring the registration of parties without parliamentary representation. The party’s submission for registration that included the names and details of more than the 1,500 members required was rejected by the Australian Electoral Commission in a protracted, onerous and bureaucratic process conducted under a veil of secrecy at every stage.
