The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) is launching its campaign in the Australian federal election with an online public meeting on Thursday April 10 at 7 p.m. (AEST). Register now!

The meeting will tell the truth, which is being covered up by every other party: This election will resolve nothing for working people. Whichever party forms government after the election will intensify a program of militarism, war and austerity that is being worked out behind closed doors.

The SEP and its candidates will explain the relationship between the election and the massive upheaval internationally. That includes a developing world war, already comprising the US-Israeli genocide in Gaza, associated threats of war throughout the Middle East and the US-NATO proxy war against Russia in Ukraine, as well as preparations for a catastrophic conflict against China in this region.

War means dictatorship. That is the significance of the unprecedented ascent of the Trump administration, which is attempting to establish a dictatorship in America, including through the persecution of political opponents, mass roundups of immigrants and the overturning of the Constitution.

All of the official claims that Australia is an “exception” to the global crisis are a fraud. Under the Albanese Labor government, this country is already involved in every front of war around the world. Over the past three years, the continent has been transformed into a staging post for a US-led war against China that would threaten nuclear Armageddon.

On the social front, Labor has inflicted the biggest reversal to working-class living standards since World War II. But far more is being demanded, with the corporate chiefs insisting that the first task after the election will be the further slashing of healthcare, education, wages and working conditions. As in the US, that agenda means authoritarianism. Already, Labor and the Coalition have cracked down on democratic rights, particularly targeting opposition to the Gaza genocide, but extending more broadly to the working class as a whole.

The SEP and its candidates, who will stand for the Senate and several lower house seats, are explaining that the real issue is building an independent movement of the working class, against all the capitalist parties and their program of war, austerity and dictatorship.

In opposition to the lies of the parties of big business, and the fraud of “lesser-evilism” peddled by the Greens and the fake-left, we are fighting to prepare the working class for the upheavals that will come after the election. Above all, that means building a revolutionary party, as part of the struggle to unify the working class globally against capitalism.

After reports elaborating on these issues, ample time will be provided for questions and discussion. Register today!
